Day 93: Puntarenas to Rio Claro, Costa Rica

Evening all
Well she's been a funny old day. Out of the Hilton Resort at Puntarenas and into a very budget hotel at Rio Claro. It's all good!

We had a slowish day today. We thought we might make it into Panama today but we were too whacked. Dick in particular was feeling grotty having not had a great nights sleep. Shirl and I went for an early morning walk to get a feel for how the rich and famous began the day.

The answer was clear - in bed. Still we had a great breakfast (especially great as it was included) of fruit and bacon and eggs and stuff and then got ourselves packed up for the road. We agreed to come down the coast road through Jaco, Quepos, Cortes but finally ran out of steam at Rio Claro.

I really enjoyed the ride - the temperature was around 27C with high cloud and a reasonable road and not too much traffic. As well, the towns were off to the side of the road so we had none of those nasty town centro rides. Best of all we had occasional views of the Pacific Ocean.

The light made photography tricky but Shirl got some good shots of the palm oil trees

and their nursery

and of course of one of the leading resorts of the area. The Hotel Wilson!

Hmmmmmmm. It was right up there with Outback Jack's BBQ and grill.

We hit a bit of rain but obviously they had had more inland. This is a river.

We had an early finish at around 2.30. Shirl and I went for a walk along the town and Dick went for a sleep. We went out at about 6.30 for a Chinese meal and that was our day. Short huh! And no borders!

Tomorrow into Panama with an early morning border crossing and then down towards our date with the Steel Rat. It's been a hard few days but we're still having fun. Hope you are too. :-)

Today's ride: 298kms
Cumulative: 25,440kms
Tipovers: 4

Location:Rio Claro, Costa Rica
